Our Analysis and Test Results
The Thule company is over 70 years old; after being initially established in Sweden in 1942, the founder, Erik Thulin, began making products for Swedish fishermen. Twenty years later, the company designed the first ski rack and a roof rack for luggage. Today, the Thule brand has grown to support an active lifestyle with products such as bike racks, cargo carriers, sports racks for winter and water activity, as well as cases, bags, bike seats for kids, backpacks, multi-purpose bike trailers, and strollers.
Performance Comparison
Ease of Use
The Thule is easier to use than much of the top-ranking double stroller competition.
The Urban Glide 2 Double features work well, and the new version sports some improvements.
Fold and Unfold
The difficulty of folding a stroller is huge for new parents. The Thule is very easy to fold with one hand and a folding handle (above left) you slide and twist. Once folded, it has an automatic lock (above right) and will self-stand if the handlebar is at the right height. Unfolding requires two hands and is straightforward.
Storage
Any stroller storage is important, but it is even more important when you need supplies for twos. The Thule has a medium-sized storage bin (above left) with access from the back and a 10 lb weight limit. We fit an extra-large diaper bag inside, but the bin's weather-resistant zippered cover won't close with the bag inside. It also sports a back pocket (above right) for small item organization.
Items like a cell phone, keys, and water bottle can go in the seatback pockets (above left), though they can be difficult to access after you recline the seats. Riders also have storage pockets within reach (above right) to keep a sippy cup or snack.
Harness
Each seat has a 5-point harness with a buckle that is significantly easier to operate than the previous version. Adjusting the harness straps is very simple, with a no-rethread adjustment with straps that slide up and down on a strap sewn to the seatback. The crotch strap is adjustable in length but not position.
Brakes
The Thule has single-action brakes that are easy to set and release, plus friendly to sandal feet (above left). The drum handbrake (above right) is also easy to use with a new twisting design and center handlebar position.
Maneuverability
The Glide Double boasts a high score for maneuverability with an easy-to-push and turn design of 3 wheels.
With air-filled rubber tires and a front swivel wheel, the Glide is easy to push and turn on flat surfaces. The Thule is somehow more nimble feeling than other double joggers.
For off-road pushing and turning, it is just as easy having no trouble with grass, gravel, bumps, or curbs. However, the softness of the suspension makes it feel slightly spongy, and we wish it had an adjustable suspension like some competitors.
This Thule has rear-wheel suspension, rubber tires, dense seat padding (thickest in the group), and harness padding, creating a reasonably comfortable ride.
The adjustable handlebar moves smoothly on a pivot point, though this design results in taller users being closer to the stroller and kicking the axle. The bar has a nice shape with a smaller diameter that makes the stroller feel smaller and fit well in hand.
Transporting and Storing
Double strollers can be a handful and often too large to fit in some vehicles. Knowing the size and weight of your potential stroller is important.
Weight and Folded Size
This Thule weighs 32.1 lbs, which is relatively light for a double jogging stroller.
Folded, the Urban Glide 2 Double is slightly above average at 20,820 cubic inches when folded, but it is smaller than some of the other joggers.
Kid Ride
Kids need to be comfortable if you plan to use your stroller often or for more extended periods.
Seat
The leg rests are not adjustable, but they are nicely padded, and the corresponding footrest is wide. Both seats have individual reclines that go almost flat for great napping. The recline plastic toggle is easy to operate with one hand.
Sunshade
Sunshade size and performance are essential for cozy passengers. The sunshades on the Glide are medium in size with a flip-out fabric visor. The shade covers almost to the knee. There is ventilation for added airflow with the seat reclined, and it has a large peek-a-boo window (above right) with a magnetic closure cover.
Quality
The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double is one of the nicest strollers in the review, with high-quality design and materials.
The fabric attaches to the frame via a groove, making the connection virtually seamless and hidden. The fabric is smooth and tight with an almost breathable feeling and is easy to clean. The frame is smooth and lightweight, with a stiff feel and few exposed connections or fasteners. The fit and finish of this Thule are well executed and clean with a sleek and thoughtful design.
Car Seat Compatibility
The Urban Glide 2 Double only accepts one infant car seat. Thule sells a universal adapter for several brands and specific adapters for Chicco and Maxi-Cosi.
You can use this Thule with the Chicco Keyfit 30 by purchasing the Thule Urban Glide Car Seat Adapter for Chicco. If your car seat of choice includes some of the Maxi-Cosi, Nuna, and Cybex seats, then you'll need the Thule Car Seat Adapter for Maxi Cosi. The Chicco adapter requires some click-together assembly but is intuitive and effortless. These two adapters use a click-in method for car seat attachment, which we prefer. The easiest and most stable to install in our tests were the Chicco Keyfit 30 and the Cybex Aton 2. Both require pushing firmly down on both sides until you hear the click; they feel secure once installed.
Thule Infant Car Seat Adapter — This adapter works with Chicco, Peg Perego, UPPAbaby, Britax, Graco, Maxi-Cosi, and Safety 1st infant car seats. Compatibility includes the award-winning Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 4-35 and UPPAbaby Mesa. The adapter ships as one piece and can be placed directly on the stroller. To install an infant car seat with this adapter, you must strap it in, which is a method we don't like because we worry parents will skip the strap step (never do this!) as it feels somewhat secure without it.
Ease of Setup
The Glide is the easiest to set up, with just over 6 minutes of assembly time.
The documentation is straightforward and does not require any tools to assemble. All you need to do is slide the wheels on, and you're ready to go.
Twins
This stroller can work for twins old enough to sit up unassisted and support their own head and neck. It does work with a single car seat but not two, which would make it hard to use for two infants of the same age. If you plan to carry one in a baby carrier you wear, then it would be a potential option. Alternatively, it is a good twin option for older babies and beyond, as the seats are the same, and each has its own canopy to limit potential fighting.
Should You Buy the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double?
There is no doubt that parents will be pleased with this ultra-cool and smooth-moving double jogger. We love the high-quality materials, the adjustable tracking, the impressive suspension, and the handlebar. Passengers love the cozy recline napping and individual adjustment canopies. We would recommend this stroller to a friend and buy it ourselves for multiple children.
What Other Double Stroller Should You Consider?
While we adore the Thule and find little fault in its design or use, the BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie is similar in many regards, but it has a slightly lower price. If you like to jog or head off-road, this is another potential option, and arguably the adjustable suspension might give it a slight edge over the Thule on uneven hiking trails and the like. Which option to choose will largely depend on your goals and personal choice of looks. If you don't plan to head off-road or move faster than a walk, the UPPAbaby Vista v2 DOuble could be the sleek option you're looking for. It has ample storage, is easy to use, and has a smaller fold.
