Nuna MIXX2 Combo Review
The Skinny
Our Analysis and Test Results
In 2007, Nuna was launched with the ZAAZ™ highchair to bring the baby to the table better. This Amsterdam company strives to make practical but clever and thoughtful baby products. Nuna is an international company that sells car seats and strollers.
Performance Comparison
Ease of Attaching Car Seat
The Nuna works with Nuna brand infant car seats only, and the adapters are included with the stroller (at this time). If you choose this stroller and want to combine it with a carrier, you're stuck with a Nuna seat (Pipa, Pipa Lite, Pipa Lite lx). We tested the MIXX2 with the Nuna Pipa.
The Nuna adapters attach to the frame of the MIXX2 where the toddler seat attaches. The infant car seat needs to align at these two points and take a little practice to get it done. The seat virtually drops in place with little pressure. You need to remove the toddler seat and canopy before you attach the car seat. This process is simple and quick. The carrier feels stable and secure, and we didn't experience any false installations.
Weight and Folded Size
The Nuna weighs just over 19 lbs and measures 15,152 cubic inches when folded. While not overly burdensome, the measurements are why it didn't impress in this critical metric.
Maneuverability
The Nuna has more flex in the frame than it should, and this hurt its ability to be pushed and turned. This result is slightly better than the UPPAbaby Cruz, but still not impressive for a stroller you'll be using for years.
Pushing off-road in grass and gravel is harder than the flat road, not by much, but again still harder than we think it should be and the flexing frame is still the contributing factor here. The wheels are foam filled rubber in the back and plastic in the front. All-wheel rubber might improve the maneuverability of this expensive stroller.
Ease of Use
The Nuna isn't that easy to use but none of the competition impressed in this department.
Fold and Unfold
The Nuna requires two hands to fold, and it doesn't self-stand or have a carry strap, but it does have an automatic locking mechanism. Folding is easy with four steps, and it will roll when folded.
Brakes
The brake pedal is color-coded, so you can tell if it is set at a glance. It is a large rocker pedal in the center of the rear axle. The pedal is easy to use and suitable for any style of shoe.
Storage
The MIXX2 storage bin is easy to access with the car seat in place you have access from all sides. It is a large bin, and it fit our extra-large diaper bag. It has a 10 lb capacity which is average but far less than some of the competition.
Sunshade
There is no canopy on this frame when you use the car seat carrier as both the toddler seat and sunshade need to be removed when you use the stroller with a car seat.
Ease of Setup
The Nuna took us 10:47 minutes to assemble and is harder to put together than much of the competition. The manual is good and has only one language, with clear illustrations that are helpful but not overwhelming. The problem is there is more to assemble than most of the competitors.
Quality
The Nuna is a high-end stroller, and the price reflects this. However, a lot is going on with this stroller, and it doesn't feel or look as nice as similar options. The seat fabric is coarse canvas but still soft and didn't snag in our tests. The overall fit and finish are busy, but it comes together well. The fabric fits well, and the canopy is tight and sleek. This stroller has an adjustable handlebar with a leather cover. It has a nice shape and is comfortable to use. It has suspension, but it is stiff and not as comfortable as some of the competition. Unfortunately, the overall quality is on par with the UUPAbaby Cruz that costs over $150 less on average.
