Our Analysis and Test Results
The mimijumi is a USA-based company founded by two psychiatrists and an industrial designer in early 2008. The main idea was that the bottle would be complementary to breastfeeding rather than a total replacement. Today, Mimijumi aims to design functional products for babies and parents, focusing on creating a natural experience through simple and safe products.
Performance Comparison
Likes
We like that this bottle didn't leak for us. Even when held upside down and shaken, the most we could get was a few drops from the tip of the nipple. So there is no need to worry about the top not being assembled correctly. The minimal design has only three parts and does not utilize a nipple ring because the nipple twists directly onto the bottle. We also love how it is extra easy to clean since it doesn't have extra pieces/valves.
Dislikes
We couldn't help but giggle when we first opened the mimijumi bottle. Its life-like, flesh-colored nipple is the most unique in our lineup of test subjects! Designed to mimic breastfeeding, we feel it lacks suppleness. Our tester didn't suck on this bottle for long before eventually using it as a teether. With a super firm nipple and a very slow flow, we noticed that our little testers preferred other bottles over the mimijumi.
The bottle's rim is slanted, which makes filling it just a little awkward. However, the wide opening counteracts this slant. Also, we don't like that this bottle is almost entirely plastic. While plastic can work well for specific situations, such as traveling or daycare, this product's cost is high for a plastic option. We also don't think its performance among the competition is enough to justify the investment.
Also, mimijumi talks up the flesh-colored nipple and claims that babies will be drawn to it; our tiny testers didn't seem to notice a difference. We believe nipple size and pliability matter more than color.
Should You Buy the mimijumi?
The mimijumi is a fascinating contender, but we see room for improvement. We're glad they skipped out on some ecological no-nos like BPA, phthalates, and latex, but we still aren't big fans of plastic. Based on our actual usage experience with our baby testers, we're still not buying what they're selling. We think better options are available, no matter your goals or budget for your baby's bottle years.
What Other Baby Bottles Should You Consider?
With other alternatives in the lineup, such as silicone and glass, we think you can find a better option for an everyday bottle and potentially for less money. We suggest looking into the Comotomo, which offers a more breast-like experience, given its soft, squeezable silicone.
