Eufy is part of the Anker Innovations collection of companies. Anker is a popular electronics company in the US. Eufy is dedicated to simplifying smart home technology, and they create products from vacuum robots, monitors, and security systems.
The range on the Eufy is better than much of the dedicated monitors in this review. In our tests, it worked for about 77 ft and through 5 walls. These measurements are far below the manufacturer's claim of 460 ft. In fairness, our open field test outside the building and with little interference was over 800 ft. However, it is doubtful you'll be using any monitor in that fashion. Seriously, please don't.
Sound clarity for this unit is questionable at best. With a maximum volume of 91dB, there is plenty of volume to be had here, but the sound isn't as clear as you'll want. The sound activation doesn't work well and only turns off when the volume is barely on, so you may not hear it. The overall sound quality is hollow and echoey with feedback if you leave it up all the way.
The video quality also doesn't really impress. While the day images have good color, something not found in most of the top-ranked video baby monitor competition, the images aren't totally clear and get fuzzier with zoom.
Night images seem somewhat clearer but are dark, making it challenging to see what is happening in the nursery and specifically what your baby's face looks like.
The setup for the Eufy is simple; all you need to do is plug it in and turn it on. This makes it a good option for the tech-challenged or grandparent. There is no logging in, downloading apps, or registration process.
It is easier than some of the dedicated competition for daily use but not as intuitive as the WiFi options that have simpler user interfaces. We are not big fans of this kind of menu-style interface where it takes multiple pushes of the same button to toggle through menu features. Only the talk, volume, and on buttons reside on the parent unit and not in a menu folder.
The battery life on the Eufy is pretty good, with an average of 12 hrs in our tests. While lower than the manufacturer claims of 15 hours, it is still respectable and should be all you need for even the longest night's sleep.
This monitor has several common and sought-after features with enough bells and whistles to appeal to parents without going over the top. However, as previously stated, the zoom creates fuzzy images, the sound activation isn't great, and there is no movement alert.
While we like the idea of having a dedicated device that can also function as a WiFi option and be viewed from outside the home, this unit just didn't pass muster during testing, and we think the convenience of both could be dampened by sub-par performance in key metrics. With lower scores for sound clarity and video quality, we don't think you get much for the higher price of the Eufy. It might be worth the money if the video was clearer or more like real life found in the other WiFi models.
If you want a dedicated monitor, the LeapFrog LF920HD 7" Display scores slightly higher overall than the Eufy, with a similar price. Sound performed much better in our tests, and we think it can easily meet the monitoring needs of most families. If you'd like a WiFi option so you can view your baby outside your home or if you have range issues inside your home, we like the iBaby M8 2K Smart Baby Monitor with its baby-centric features and impressive video quality. If you'd like something long-term to use for security after babyhood is over, the Google Nest Cam 2nd Gen is a possible solution that can save you money over time while offering impressive video and acceptable sound.
