Performance Comparison

Absorbency

The babygoal Reusable delivers an average performance in our absorbency tests. While better than some, it doesn't compete with top absorbers in the cloth diaper competition.

In our absorbency tests, we noticed no pooling or runoff of mock urine, and no leaks occurred when the diaper was compressed with weights. However, the babygoal diaper struggles to hold a lot of wetness. So, if your baby is a heavy wetter, you may need to look elsewhere. But, for daytime use, when diaper changes are happening more frequently, this diaper gets the job done.

The babygoal diaper set we purchased included six diaper covers, six three-layer microfiber inserts, and four three-layer bamboo inserts. When stuffing the internal pocket, we placed the microfiber above the bamboo insert because microfiber excels at wicking and quickly absorbing moisture, and bamboo is typically better at containing it.

Fit/Leakage

Every baby is unique in shape and size, but a few design elements, like adjustability and gusset structure, can help fit and decrease the chance of leakage.

We achieved a good fit on our little tester, who was six months old and 15 lbs at the testing time. The diaper was snug to their belly, and we experienced no leaks while using this diaper.

The babygoal Reusable has a slightly convex shape (a scoop shape is better than a diaper laying flat or concave). It has single gussets, whereas we prefer double. But, we appreciate that the outer waterproof material extends further than the inside fabric on the gussets. This is a plus in our books since the interior lining wicks moisture, and if it sticks out, wetness can travel to the diaper's edge, creating a leak that could result in a wardrobe change.

The snaps release a little too easily for our liking. But we appreciate that it offers a double row of snaps that provide extra security.

Comfort

The babygoal doesn't stand out for comfort, with an average score for this metric.

Its two biggest strengths are that we did not notice any tight spots on our little tester, and the exterior is soft. But, when rubbing your finger along the gussets' edge, they aren't the smoothest.

Ease of Use

There's elastic around the pocket opening, and with not much excess material on the cover, the internal pocket can feel tight and not as accessible versus diapers with large pocket openings. Consequently, stuffing this pocket diaper requires a little more effort, but we had no problems removing the inserts.

Once stuffed, the diaper feels no different than using a disposable, except for the laundering part. The daily prep of a pocket diaper keeps the babygoal Reusable from scoring higher in this metric than all-in-one diapers that don't require little to no assembly. But, you may be motivated that each diaper is money saved. Plus, some parents find stuffing therapeutic.

Should You Buy the babygoal Reusable?

Much thought goes into modern cloth diapers, and some include attractive features. If you're committed to cloth for diapering, selecting a higher-ranking product will likely offer better absorbency and more user satisfaction. However, between the babygoal Reusable's performance and price point, we think it deserves some spotlight. It's a good introductory set to kick off cloth diapering for babies who aren't heavy wetters.
