Performance Comparison
Health and Safety
With increased potential for steam related incidents, the Brezza earns a fair score for health and safety, but the lowest among all metrics for this unit. This product has two heat modes, quick heat, and steady heat. The quick heat cycle is faster, but the final temperature of the bottle is lower.
Using the steady heat mode yields, according to instructions, a temp of 91F in 4:55 minutes. If the bottle is left in the warmer after the end of the cycle, it can reach up to 114F in under 12 minutes. In as little as 7 minutes, the bottle reaches temperatures over 101F. This occurrence could happen if you have a crying baby or other things to tend to while the bottle warms. When used at maximum settings, the bottle contents reached 131F, which is far too hot and over the 104F benchmark where breastmilk begins to lose nutrients.
Ease of Use
The Brezza is one of the easiest warmers to use, earning it a tiptop ranking in the metric of ease of use. The user manual for the Brezza is easy to read, has large font, and is straightforward. The unit has two warming modes depending on how fast you need the bottle warmed, and the user interface is simple and intuitive. This unit is compatible with bottles of various sizes and materials, including wide-bottles and glass.
We like that Brezza has put the warming chart on the back of the warmer; this means there is nothing to lose or misplace and help is right where you need it when you need it. Filling the warmer with water to match the instructions is simple and varies only depending on which heating method you choose. The Brezza has an automatic shut-off and an audible beep when the heat cycle is over decreasing the chances of overheating. However, we caution parents to remain vigilant about bottles in the warmer as they overheat quickly in this unit if left in the chamber after the heat cycle is over.
Warming Efficiency
The Brezza is an efficient heater with an above-average score for this metric. With two heat modes, this unit offers two options for speed that also translate to two different bottle content temperatures.
Following manufacturer instructions, the Brezza heats contents to 76F using the quick warm mode (steam heat) at 2:40 minutes. Using steady heat mode, you'll get a warmer bottle at 91F in about 4:55 minutes, faster than much of the water bath warmer choices in this review.
To ensure the contents aren't too hot, you should always test the liquid on the inside of your wrist before feeding your baby. After you warm the bottle, you should always swirl the bottle to mix in potential hot spots before testing. The liquid should be warm but not hot.
This warmer requires a complete cooling before you heat an additional bottle, so it isn't a good choice for parents of multiples. Theoretically, you could ignore the instructions and heat a subsequent bottle after the first, but it would likely be far too hot, potentially killing valuable nutrients in breast milk.
Ease of Cleaning
The Brezza struggles somewhat in testing for cleaning, earning it a slightly above average score. While the daily upkeep consists of dumping the water and wiping clean, we weren't able to reach the bottom of the chamber, and you'll need to rely on rinsing to keep it clean. Rinsing doesn't seem like a good way to keep it properly cleaned. The descaling treatment includes running the unit on setting 5 with a vinegar/water mix.
